Job Description

A rare opportunity exists for a highly motivated and experienced Director of Nursing to take on this leading role to undertake and focus on leadership, strategic direction and operational management of clinical and support functions. This opportunity will see you lead our specialised day surgery located in Chatswood on part time basis, a great opportunity for a passionate experienced facility manager (Director of Nursing). Sydney Specialist Day Hospital is located close to the train at Chatswood.

This position is part of an executive team with the key responsibility to ensure clinical teams provide a high standard of clinical service delivery and outcomes within budget, complying with relevant legislation and care standards. Sydney Specialist Day Hospital has established an excellent reputation in the community for its high commitment to customer service, staff satisfaction and quality improvement with uncompromising focus on high quality clinical outcomes, systems, processes, staff, equipment and our facility.


  • Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency
  • 5 years post graduate nursing experience
  • 2 years administrative experience in a position of, or more senior than that of, nursing unit manager
  • Extensive experience in clinical nursing and management at a senior level experience
  • National Police certificate and WWC


  • Staff management skills including recruitment, performance management and rostering would be preferred
  • Commitment to quality management and a broad knowledge of annual accreditation requirements on all standards
  • Well-developed financial and analytical skills, ability to manage KPIs, strategic planning, and promote and positively implement a patient-focused care model
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Consultative leadership style and ability to build rapport and effectively relate with all stakeholders


  • Paediatric experience preferred but not a requirement
  • Experience in managing & coordinating quality control
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards and their application in the acute health setting
  • Experience with the 10 New National Standards with success in achieving 10 accreditation standards
  • Post-Graduate qualifications in Health Management would be advantageous
